SHERRESE CLARKE Founder & CEO, HarbourView Equity Partners Sherrese Clarke is a visionary two-time Founder & CEO having spent over 20 years in corporate finance, capital markets, investment banking, and private equity. Sherrese founded HarbourView Equity Partners in 2021 with a vision to create a next generation private equity firm focused on the entertainment and media space to help shape, impact, and influence culture. Leading a team of 30+ business and entertainment professionals while overseeing a diverse portfolio of premium content across the entertainment and media sectors, HarbourView has amassed roughly $2.67 billion* in regulatory assets under management including over 70+ music catalogs and investments in two media production companies, MACRO and Mucho Mas Media. Most recently, Sherrese made a deal to finance a slate of Hip Hop biopics in partnership with Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios, Flavor Unit and Jesse Collins Entertainment, starting with a Queen Latifah biopic. This followed an investment in Usher’s 2024 concert film “Rendezvous in Paris.” Prior to starting HarbourView, Sherrese founded Tempo Music where she served as CEO and Board Director. At Tempo, Sherrese formed a strategic partnership with Warner Music Group, brought on Providence Equity Partners to back the venture, and delivered an above average IRR for the investment class. Previously, Sherrese was a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, having spent close to 15 years in several roles at the firm and most recently leading the Entertainment, Media, & Sports Structured Solutions Platform, devising a cross-asset strategy focused on capital solutions for intellectual property. During her 10-year tenure, she managed the origination and execution of $85B+ in loan commitments for the firm and served as Deputy Chair of the Capital Commitment Committee. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Sherrese was one of the three founding senior leaders to develop the entertainment practice at CIT Group, overseeing a $1B portfolio across entertainment companies. Sherrese has been recognized by Billboard as Top Power Player the last four years; Top Women in Music the last four years; Hip Hop and R&B Power Player the last four years; Country Power Player; and was named one of Variety’s Women of Impact; one of the 100 Most Influential Women by Entrepreneur Magazine; Inc. Magazine’s Women of Influence; Billboard Change Agent; and Buyouts Class of 2022 Women in PE. She received Billboard’s Trailblazer Award at the Grammy Week Power 100 in 2023 and was recognized as one of Hollywood’s top Dealmakers in 2024 by Variety. Sherrese received a B.S. in Finance from Georgetown University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. She is a board member of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, where she serves as Treasurer and Chair; a board trustee at Carnegie Hall; an 11 year board member of the Counsel of Urban Professionals; Apollo Gala Chair; and oversees HarbourView Foundation’s donations to various organizations.

Roger is a business leader with more than 35 years of professional services expertise in finance, risk management, regulatory compliance, and business strategy. He has extensive corporate governance experience, notably related to audit and finance and other committees and assists organizations with complex financial transactions and organization-wide transformation initiatives. Roger is committed to enhancing leadership capabilities and strategic decision-making among senior executives and has served on Deloitte LLP USA’s Board Council, including service on its Finance and Audit Committee and the Global Committee. As the East Region market leader and New York managing partner, Roger fosters an inclusive culture, spearheads organizational operations, and drives growth through client engagement across the following businesses: audit and assurance, risk and financial advisory, tax, and consulting. Roger drives regional growth by leading managing partners across 48 offices in the East Region, including over 3,600 partners, principals and managing directors and professional staff of more than 51,000. Additionally, Roger leads the New York office, Deloitte’s US headquarters and largest office, and works with over 600 partners, principals and managing directors and more than 8,000 professionals. In this role, he creates a marketplace plan strategy for growth and leans into the top ten and other market accounts, ensuring that clients receive, and that targets are aware of, a full suite of interdisciplinary service offerings. Roger is a transformational leader recognized for his large-scale strategic impact and crisis management skills. Roger fosters relationship-building among partners, professionals, and alumni to promote meaningful networking, inclusion, and career growth. He sponsors and mentors senior executives and rising leaders internal and external to Deloitte. His work to advance market eminence includes active engagement on marketing, public relations, speaking engagements, and social media with an emphasis on advancing connections. New York City is Roger’s hometown; he is enthusiastic about serving his broader community and encourages all to do the same, including leading thousands who participate in volunteerism projects annually, and senior executives who serve on hundreds of community-focused boards. With a strong background in the financial services industry, Roger maintains lead client service partner roles for several multi-national, multi-billion companies and is responsible for service excellence while working with the member firms across Deloitte’s global organization. Roger teams across service lines and sectors to provide solutions to clients and assists them in understanding various regulatory, structural, and operational frameworks. Roger has had the pleasure to speak at numerous conferences and has been quoted in industry publications. Roger is a long-standing supporter of many non-profit and civic organizations. He serves as the Chairperson of the Black Achievers in Industry Steering Committee, Chairperson of the Braven New York Board and he also serves on the National Board of Directors of the A Better Chance, Braven, Carnegie Hall, the Greater YMCA of New York and The Robertson Foundation organizations. He is a member of and leads differing activities of many other organizations, including the Accountant’s Coalition, Baruch College Dean’s Advisory Council, the Economic Club of New York, the Executive Leadership Council, the National Association of Corporate Directors, the New York Jobs CEO Council, the Partnership for New York City, and the NYS Business Council. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the National Association of Black Accountants. Roger received a Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from Baruch College.

The Judith Berry Griffin Award, named for Judith Berry Griffin, President of A Better Chance from 1982–2003, carries with it a monetary award of $5,000 and is awarded to a senior who has shown exceptional and steadfast determination to achieve. The recipient demonstrates success through perseverance toward personal objectives, in spite of obstacles that might have impeded his or her progress.

The Nancy J. Lucas Memorial Award was established in loving memory of our Senior Program Coordinator who served the New York Metro Area from 1985 to 2002. Ms. Lucas’s family, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority sisters, A Better Chance colleagues, and countless Alumni who benefited from her services have endowed this award. The award, and the $3,500 that accompanies it, is given to a Scholar who demonstrates leadership in promoting equity and justice at his or her school or offers special encouragement to peers.

International High School

The Sandra E. Timmons Award, established in 2024, is awarded to a senior Scholar who exceeds in the classroom and out, demonstrates success in spite of obstacles, is a leader on campus, and hopes to pursue a degree in business and economics.  Further, recipients have taken advantage of the most challenging courses in their schools’ rigorous curriculum specific to business and economics and have demonstrated their academic prowess in doing so. Specifically, awardees will have taken and scored a four or above in two of the following advanced placement (AP) courses: AP Calculus AB or BC, AP Stats, AP Microeconomics, and AP Macroeconomics. Each Award winner receives a gift of $1,500

 

Visentin Scholar Award Recipients

The Visentin Award is named for John Visentin, a dear friend of A Better Chance and the former President & CEO of Xerox. Mr. Visentin was a champion for the transformative power of education and innovation. In that spirit, this award is presented to two senior Scholars who have developed distinctive solutions to challenges faced by their school, community, or family. The Award will preference Scholars who have demonstrated financial need and who are interested in pursuing studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, or math.
