A Better Chance Names New National Director of External Affairs August 10, 2022
A Better Chance is thrilled to share that Karen Johns has been appointed our new National Director of External Affairs, overseeing development and communications for the organization. Karen begins her tenure on August 2ND, 2021.
Karen possesses approximately 25 years of development and broader external relations experience gained through various roles in professional fundraising, executive leadership, and philanthropy-related consulting. She has deep experience driving philanthropy for equity-based programs and it has been a focus of her career.
Karen launched her fundraising career at Tufts University. This is where she first became familiar with A Better Chance. Through her admissions and fundraising roles at Tufts, she was part of a four-person team that managed an impressive $40M campaign. Later, Karen gained a deeper understanding of A Better Chance’s mission and impact while serving as Vice President for Fundraising with Sponsors for Educational Opportunity, then as Executive Director of the Diversity Pipeline Alliance. In both roles, Karen successfully led ambitious growth strategies.
Most recently, Karen has served as a philanthropic consultant, which will add considerable value to her prospective leadership as a member of the Management Team. She leverages a broad perspective of the nonprofit field and external relations, having successfully partnered with a wide range of clients (domestically and internationally), organizational profiles, and fundraising models.
We are so pleased to welcome Karen to the A Better Chance team!
